One thing I found interesting about this chapter was the part about lying and non-verbal communication. I am a really bad liar and that's because I know its wrong to lie. So when I do lie I think my body shows it. One time my friends asked me a question and all I kept doing was shaking my head no. It was weird. I was trying so hard to lie but all I could do was shake my head. My body wouldn't let me lie, it was almost kind of funny. I think non-verbal communication is key to getting to know someone. When I meet someone new, I am more focused on their non-verbal behaviors than anything they tell me. For example, I will ask a particular question but instead of listening to the answer I tend to watch their body and eyes. If someones eye's dart around the room a lot, I don't think that they are trust worthy people because they are non-verbally communicating a sense that they are not comfortable with themselves and seem ashamed of something. Non-verbal communication plays a bigger role than we think. I wish they educated children more on non-verbal communication so we could possibly judge people in a more fair way than we do now and we could possibly avoid being around bad people this way.

  1. I think you are correct when you say that non-verbal plays a bigger role than we think and that children should be more educated on the subject to a higher extent. I do not think though, that people who dart their eyes around the room or try to avoid eye contact are always un-trust worthy. The reason I say this, is because usually, when I talk to someone, whether it be a stranger at work, a manager, a friend, my girlfriend, or even family, I tend to not make eye contact. I do not know why I do it, I just do. I can assure you that it has nothing to do with me telling them a lie, or that I am ashamed of something or I am trying to hide something. There are times where it just feels like eye contact is something I cannot always make when I speak with people. I do not know the psychological reasoning behind why this is so, but all I have to say is that, people who do it, are not always lying. I just thought it you would like to know that, so in case you every meet someone new who does that, perhaps you might not be so quick to not trust them.
